Sealants and Fluoride Treatment

Sealants are typically applied to children’s teeth as a preventive measure against tooth decay after their permanent teeth have appeared. However, adults can also receive sealants on healthy teeth. It is more common to seal permanent teeth rather than baby teeth, but every patient has unique needs, and we will recommend sealants on a case-by-case basis. When a tooth is closed, the tiny grooves become smooth and are less likely to harbour bacteria and plaque. With sealants, brushing your teeth becomes more accessible and more effective.

Fluoride helps the tooth’s outer surface, the enamel, stay strong and fight against the acids that cause cavities and tooth decay. Decisions concerning the administration of fluoride are based on the unique needs of each patient.
