About

Bone Grafting

Most bone grafting at Stadium Dental is small-volume and outpatient — a 30 to 60 minute procedure under local anaesthetic that sets the foundation for a future implant or stabilizes a periodontally compromised tooth.

When a tooth is extracted, the surrounding bone resorbs over the next 6 months. Placing a small graft in the empty socket at the time of extraction preserves the ridge for a future implant — and often makes the implant possible without a more involved procedure later.

Larger sinus lifts and ridge augmentations are done in cases of long-standing tooth loss where significant bone has been lost. These are typically co-managed with an oral surgeon.

Most bone grafting is covered by extended dental insurance under the basic-services category. Stadium Dental direct-bills the carrier and submits a pre-determination before treatment.

Bone Grafting · FAQ

Common questions about bone grafting at Stadium Dental in Edmonton.

  1. Most grafts at Stadium Dental use processed donor bone or a synthetic substitute, both of which integrate predictably and avoid a second surgical site. For larger augmentations, we sometimes harvest a small block from elsewhere in the jaw.

  2. No. Many implants can be placed in existing healthy bone without grafting. We assess each site individually with a 3D CBCT scan before any decision is made.
