A 5-minute sealant on each new permanent molar dramatically reduces childhood cavities — and a topical fluoride strengthens the enamel.
About
Sealants & Fluoride
The first permanent molars erupt around age 6 and the second around age 12. Both come in with deep grooves that catch food and bacteria — sealants close those grooves and prevent the most common type of childhood cavity.
Sealants take about 5 minutes per tooth, are completely painless (no anaesthetic needed), and are typically applied at a regular check-up appointment. The tooth is cleaned, etched, and a thin layer of sealant resin is light-cured into the grooves.
Fluoride varnish is applied at every cleaning visit for kids. It strengthens enamel, reverses very early cavity damage, and is the single most effective preventive intervention dentistry offers.
Almost every Canadian dental plan covers sealants and fluoride varnish at 100% under preventive services. Stadium Dental direct-bills the carrier — your child usually leaves with no charge.
