About

Tooth & Wisdom Tooth Extraction

Most extractions don't need a referral to an oral surgeon. Stadium Dental performs simple and surgical extractions in-office, including the majority of wisdom teeth, with local anaesthetic and optional sedation.

A simple extraction takes 15 to 30 minutes for an erupted, intact tooth. Surgical extractions — for fractured teeth, deeply decayed teeth, or impacted wisdom teeth — take 30 to 60 minutes and involve a small gum incision and tooth sectioning.

Recovery is typically 2 to 4 days for simple extractions and 5 to 10 for surgical or wisdom-tooth cases. Detailed aftercare instructions, ice-and-elevation guidance, and a 24-hour follow-up call are part of every visit.

Bone grafting at the time of extraction (socket preservation) is recommended whenever a future implant is being considered. We discuss this option before any extraction begins.

Tooth & Wisdom Tooth Extraction · FAQ

Common questions about tooth & wisdom tooth extraction at Stadium Dental in Edmonton.

  1. Not always. Wisdom teeth that are erupted, functional, and easy to clean can stay. Impacted, partially erupted, or angled teeth that are causing or likely to cause problems should come out.

  2. If it's a back tooth that doesn't show, sometimes no replacement is needed. For most other extractions, an implant, bridge, or partial denture is recommended to maintain the bite and prevent neighbouring teeth from drifting.
