About

Oral Cancer Screening

Oral cancer is most curable when caught early. Stadium Dental performs a comprehensive head-and-neck soft-tissue screening at every adult check-up, looking for the subtle changes that warrant further investigation.

Your dentist visually and manually examines the lips, gums, cheeks, tongue, floor of the mouth, palate, and throat for any unusual lumps, persistent ulcers, white or red patches, or texture changes. The exam takes about two minutes and is completely painless.

Anything suspicious is photographed and tracked. Lesions that don't resolve within two weeks are referred to an oral surgeon or ENT specialist for biopsy and further work-up — coordinated with your family physician.

Risk factors include tobacco, alcohol, HPV, prolonged sun exposure to the lips, and a previous personal or family history. If any of these apply to you, an annual screening is essential.

Oral Cancer Screening · FAQ

Common questions about oral cancer screening at Stadium Dental in Edmonton.

  1. Every adult — at least once a year. Patients with risk factors (tobacco, heavy alcohol use, HPV, family history) benefit from screening at every six-month check-up.

  2. Most findings are benign. If a lesion looks suspicious, we photograph and recheck in two weeks. If it persists, we refer you to an oral surgeon or ENT specialist for a biopsy. Stadium Dental coordinates the referral and your family physician's involvement.
