Deep
Cleaning
A deep cleaning that reaches below the gumline to clear tartar, smooth tooth roots, and reverse the early stages of periodontal disease.
About
Scaling & Root Planing
Scaling and root planing (SRP) is the gold-standard non-surgical treatment for moderate periodontal disease — clearing the plaque and calculus that a regular cleaning can't reach.
Your hygienist freezes the area, scales away tartar above and below the gumline using ultrasonic and hand instruments, then planes the root surfaces smooth so plaque can't easily reattach. The mouth is usually treated in two halves over two visits.
Pocket depths are re-measured at 4 to 6 weeks. Most pockets shrink by 1 to 3 millimetres, and bleeding indexes drop dramatically. Patients who maintain a 3-month recall hold those gains long-term.
Stadium Dental fees for SRP stay below the Alberta Dental Fee Guide. Most extended dental plans cover at 80%, and we direct-bill at the front desk.

Scaling & Root Planing · FAQ
Common questions about scaling & root planing at Stadium Dental in Edmonton.
No. We use local anaesthetic so the procedure is comfortable. Some sensitivity to cold for a week or two afterwards is normal as the freshly cleaned roots adjust.
A regular cleaning works above the gumline. SRP cleans the root surfaces below the gumline where pockets have formed — a much deeper, more therapeutic treatment.
